I’m passionate about teaching all kinds of music to all kinds of people.

Welcome!

I’ve been a student of music since the age of 3 which means I’ve had many teachers over the years. Some of my experiences as a student left me frustrated and discouraged while others were inspiring and super fun.

My goal is to provide the same positive, creative and inspiring experiences I’ve had through my musical journey, whether virtually or in person at my Portland-based studio location.

Conveniently located at the corner of NE 33rd Ave and Alberta Street, my physical space for students includes a fully-equipped lesson room as well as a parent & family lounge. I’ve taken great care to create a space where students can feel comfortable and have a fantastic lesson experience.

About Me

I grew up in a classical music family, my mother playing Bass, my father a Percussionist and Principal Librarian, both with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. As a result, I began learning violin at the age of 3, picked up the tuba in 5th grade which led me to the electric bass guitar. I completed my Bachelors of Music degree from Columbia College Chicago in 2010 with double bass, electric bass and guitar as my primary instruments.

I have been playing professionally since my college years which includes international touring, studio recording, Off-Broadway pit-orchestra gigs, jazz, reggae, fusion, funk, country, folk, blues, pop, rock, electronic, hip-hop and just about anything else you can think of.

My Approach

Our lessons will be much more than simply learning to use your instrument. We will explore music that interests you while discovering the various aspects of being a musician.

This can include how to play your favorite songs, identifying chords and melodies by ear, soloing (improvisation), learning to read and write in the musical language, composing your own songs, music theory, history, instrument maintenance, repair and much, much more.

I’ve worked with students of many backgrounds and abilities, including students with learning disabilities, ADHD & those on-the-spectrum. It is my mission that all students feel safe and encouraged at Alberta Street Music School with genuine support and positivity.

I can help.
